About MuayThai

Around the years 1238-1408, Thailand capital was located at Sukhothai. During that time, Sukothai often fought with its neighbour. Skill such as kicking, kneeing, punching and elbowing were developed. So, MuayThai was created. Muay Thai was a higher art and was a part of royal curriculum. According to some resource, this era is Sukothai era. From era to era, MuayThai is used as self-defense and teached in military. On King Narai Era (1604 - 1690), MuayThai became a profesional sport. Even on King Prachao Sua Era (1697 - 1709), King himself gone for fight on the arena and win after 3 good fighters, they were Nai Klan Madtai (killing fist), Nai Yai Madlek (iron fist), and Nai Lek Madnak (hard fist). Pre-Fight Ritual When entering the ring, fighter use Mongkon on their head and Pong Malai around their necks. Mongkon is represent the gym, it is essentially a crown. KON MUAY THAI

Kon Muay means the movements or the styles of using Muay Thai as the art of Fighting both of the attack and the defense, which are named by the characteristic of the usage. If using for example the attack called Knon Muay JuJom. If using for the defense or counter called Kon Muay-Kae. If using for the defense and counter by the fists called Kon Muay-Kae Mad, to defend and counter by the feet called Kon Muay-Kae Tao, to defend and counter by the knees called Kon Muay-Kae Kao, to defend and counter by the elbows called Kon Muay-Kae Sok.
