Around the years 1238-1408, Thailand capital was located at Sukhothai. During that time, Sukothai often fought with its neighbour. Skill such as kicking, kneeing, punching and elbowing were developed. So, MuayThai was created. Muay Thai was a higher art and was a part of royal curriculum. According to some resource, this era is Sukothai era. From era to era, MuayThai is used as self-defense and teached in military. On King Narai Era (1604 - 1690), MuayThai became a profesional sport. Even on King Prachao Sua Era (1697 - 1709), King himself gone for fight on the arena and win after 3 good fighters, they were Nai Klan Madtai (killing fist), Nai Yai Madlek (iron fist), and Nai Lek Madnak (hard fist). Pre-Fight Ritual When entering the ring, fighter use Mongkon on their head and Pong Malai around their necks. Mongkon is represent the gym, it is essentially a crown. Pak Look Thoy

This Kon Muay is the important technique, which is, used for defense against the kick by throws the elbow to the skin.

The attacker throws the swinging right foot to the defensive’s face and keeps up the hands for his guards.

The defensive steps with the right foot about a half of step weight on the right foot then turns to the direction of the kick, holds up the right elbow at the level of the shin and also hold up the left hand guard at the level of the neck to protect the face. If the attacker throws the left foot do the opposite as above. But in training uses the forehand instead of the elbow
