Around the years 1238-1408, Thailand capital was located at Sukhothai. During that time, Sukothai often fought with its neighbour. Skill such as kicking, kneeing, punching and elbowing were developed. So, MuayThai was created. Muay Thai was a higher art and was a part of royal curriculum. According to some resource, this era is Sukothai era. From era to era, MuayThai is used as self-defense and teached in military. On King Narai Era (1604 - 1690), MuayThai became a profesional sport. Even on King Prachao Sua Era (1697 - 1709), King himself gone for fight on the arena and win after 3 good fighters, they were Nai Klan Madtai (killing fist), Nai Yai Madlek (iron fist), and Nai Lek Madnak (hard fist). Pre-Fight Ritual When entering the ring, fighter use Mongkon on their head and Pong Malai around their necks. Mongkon is represent the gym, it is essentially a crown. Fighter never touch the mongkon, mongkon places and remove by their Kru (trainer). Different gym will have different Mongkon,

Throws the fists and elbows

The boxer throws the right punch to the left jaw of the opponent and keeps on the right guard then strikes the elbow to the same target or to the opponent’s neck at the same time. Then throws the swinging back elbow to the opponent's chin again. This trick is used for attack, defense and to escape.

To protect
Wipes the opponent's punch to the left side by the left arm or throws the tip of foot to the opponent's abdomen.

To counter

Strikes the right kick to the opponent's rib. If the boxer is a left handed fighter, reverse the descriptions from right to left.
