Around the years 1238-1408, Thailand capital was located at Sukhothai. During that time, Sukothai often fought with its neighbour. Skill such as kicking, kneeing, punching and elbowing were developed. So, MuayThai was created. Muay Thai was a higher art and was a part of royal curriculum. According to some resource, this era is Sukothai era. From era to era, MuayThai is used as self-defense and teached in military. On King Narai Era (1604 - 1690), MuayThai became a profesional sport. Even on King Prachao Sua Era (1697 - 1709), King himself gone for fight on the arena and win after 3 good fighters, they were Nai Klan Madtai (killing fist), Nai Yai Madlek (iron fist), and Nai Lek Madnak (hard fist). Pre-Fight Ritual When entering the ring, fighter use Mongkon on their head and Pong Malai around their necks. Mongkon is represent the gym, it is essentially a crown. In English mean to plant the elbows

These elbow tricks used when the opponent lose his balance and steps in. If the opponent steps in to the right: strike the right elbow to his back. If the opponent steps in to the left: strikes the left elbow to his back. If he steps in the front: strikes the both of elbows or one of them to the opponent's back or you may also throw the knee to the opponent' chin.

To protect
Hold on to both fists to cover your neck and both elbow to cover the chest.

To counter
If you're got the gap or the occasion to escape turn back and throw the left or the right elbow to the opponent's chest.
